Getting involved in your local community is a great way to improve your sense of wellbeing, giving you a sense of achievement and a sense of belonging. Many people live outside of the community they grew up in and may live a long distance from family and friends. It is common to feel isolated and alone. By getting involved in your local community you can take part in something worthwhile and make friends.

Volunteering is great for:

  • People who have been out of work - learning new skills and gaining confidence is an important step in getting back to paid employment.
  • People who want a career change - demonstrate to potential new employers that you are committed to the job by volunteerng in your chosen field.
  • People who have recently moved to a new area - make friends, find out more about your surroundings and become part of your community.
  • People who have recently retired - if you no longer work but want to use your skills and give something to society.

In fact, becoming a volunteer and getting involved in your local community is great for anyone who has a little time to give.
